Broken Doll (Diptych)
The doll is on the right, flattened by her cousin. On the left, the fire and an amazing disappearing act.
Back then, toys weren’t flame-resistant.

Land(e)scape 01
Onto a landscape – that expresses the beauty and freedom of the future – are superimposed feelings of loss and disorientation.

Leaving Cuba
A view of the receding island from above. The coral reefs are bright and beautiful as darkness looms.

Good weather and beautiful beaches (Diptych)
The story in one work, and the memory in the other (experience vs. feeling).

Havana, Cuba (Diptych)
The birds are always watching.
The paintings in this set reflect my own intuitive interpretations of Hilda’s stories as I listened to them while painting.

Land(e)scape 02
A beach / seascape reveals itself only slightly as memories and stories are inscribed into its form of shapes, lines, and color. The forms morph into something else – a creature, a flower, or a bird.

The day they took the barbershop away
The sadness and indignation of those fleeing from their homeland.

I almost never existed (Diptych)
The great cosmic nothingness.

The thought of never existing, like the thought of infinity. Peering out a window pondering what could be if only…

Emergency Baptism
The baptism, the falling of the bombs, the chaos: something bright emerges from the darkness.

Land(e)scape 03
A divide between two lands. So close, yet so far.
